The combination method against the cherry vinegar fly in viticulture
Recommended uses for use in the combination method:
Viticulture-The Cherry Fly
Read our latest info flyer:
After the rainy early summer of 2016, viticulture started with a comparatively high stock of the cherry vinegar fly. Relevant infestations and damage were shown due to the more than unfavourable weather in August and September, but only in peripheral areas and more difficult areas of small climatic climatic conditions. Conducting meaningful attempts at action under these conditions is all the more gratifying. In an experiment at the State Vineyard and Fruit Institute in Weinsberg, a strategy comparison between the combination method with combi-protec + Spintor 5 ml (4x) and the recommended control strategy with spray applications of Spintor 160 ml (2x) And Karate Zeon 37.5 ml (1x) in the Acolon variety and evaluated. The untreated control was located between the treated variants, which is also noticeable in the infestation pressure in the control parcel. For harvesting are approx. 16% of the berries with egg deposits, which corresponds to about 14 berries per grape (for about 90 berries per grape). Both infested berries and infestation strength (number of egg deposits) were evaluated on several dates, no later than six days after an application. There is a significant difference between the treated plots and the untreated control.
The combination method was used to achieve an equivalent result in the experiment as with the Spintor and Karate Zeon spray applications.
In the "Red Gutedel" variety susceptible to cherry vinegar flies, a strategy comparison between the combination process with combi-protec + spintor 5 ml (3x) and recommended control strategy with spray applications from Spintor 160 ml (2x) and Mospilan SG 375 g (1x ) with a double repetition and evaluated. The evaluation took place on seven dates, the last evaluation took place 12 days after the last treatment.
In the individual bonitures and on average all evaluations, there is a comparable effect of the combination method with combi-protec and the strategy with spraying methods.
The mode of action
The uptake of combi-protec is mainly done by cargo and leads to an increased effect on the flies. An egg laying of fruit and vinegar flies is already prevented shortly after the intake. In combination, the duration of action of the insecticides is extended to about 5-10 days. So that new cherry vinegar flies flying into the stock do not come to the egg laying, a quick effect of the spray surface on the insects is important. Here, the benefits lie in a mixture of the insecticide with a cargo bait like combi-protec. Even with the same concentration of applications and a fraction of the usually spent amount of insecticide, a much faster killing effect can be detected. Just six hours after the flies were exposed to the mixture of spintor 4 ml and combi-protec 1 l used as bait, almost 90% of the flies were killed off.
Laboratory tests often represent only enough natural conditions. In 2016, we tried for the first time to fix and count the killed cherry vinegar flies under the vines. For comparison, both treated and untreated plants were treated and untreated, the fall of the dead was levied with a quadruple repetition. The evaluation shown below distinguishes the deviation between the untreated variant and the spray treatment Spintor 160 ml/ha, as well as the combi-protec + spintor 5 ml/ha variant. 24 hours after the combi-protec + spintor 5 ml/ha treatment, 3.4 x more dead flies were identified under the vines than in the untreated variant. In the combination method, a higher case of the dead was shown over four days than in all other variants. The results of the laboratory tests could be confirmed in the open.
Contrary to the general recommendation, the treatments before rainfall (24-48 hours beforehand) are classified by us as very important and recommended!
