combi-protec is authorised for use with Tracer®, Conserve®, Gazelle®, Gazelle® SG, Aceta® 20SG, Acetamex® 20 SP, Agrovista Reggae®, Calypso®, Verimark® 20SC, Madex® Top, on all edible crops provided that the statutory conditions of use for the pesticide are followed and that the pesticide is not used at more than 50% of the maximum approved rate for that application. combi-protec is also authorised for use with the above mentioned insecticides on all non-edible crops provided that the statutory conditions of use for the pesticide are followed. Do not use in mixes with other insecticides, fungicides, adjuvants, foliar fertilizers, or if conditions are not recommended for the partner insecticide. Apply spray mixture within 24 hours.

Trials 2016

After the rainy early summer of 2016, viticulture started with a comparatively high stock of the cherry vinegar fly. Relevant infestations and damage were shown due to the more than unfavourable weather in August and September, but only in peripheral areas and more difficult areas of small climatic climatic conditions. Conducting meaningful attempts at action under these conditions is all the more gratifying. In an experiment at the State Vineyard and Fruit Institute in Weinsberg, a strategy comparison between the combination method with combi-protec + Spintor 5 ml (4x) and the recommended control strategy with spray applications of Spintor/Tracer 160 ml (2x) and Karate Zeon 37.5 ml (1x) in the Acolon variety and evaluated. The untreated control was located between the treated variants, which is also noticeable in the infestation pressure in the control parcel. For harvesting are approx. 16% of the berries with egg deposits, which corresponds to about 14 berries per grape (for about 90 berries per grape). Both infested berries and infestation strength (number of egg deposits) were evaluated on several dates, no later than six days after an application.   There is a significant difference between the treated plots and the untreated control.

The combination method was used to achieve an equivalent result in the experiment as with the Spintor and Karate Zeon spray applications.

The mode of action

The uptake of combi-protec is mainly done by cargo and leads to an increased effect on the flies. An egg laying of fruit and vinegar flies is already prevented shortly after the intake. In combination, the duration of action of the insecticides is extended to about 5-10 days. So that new cherry vinegar flies flying into the stock do not come to the egg laying, a quick effect of the spray surface on the insects is important. Here, the benefits lie in a mixture of the insecticide with a cargo bait like combi-protec. Even with the same concentration of applications and a fraction of the usually spent amount of insecticide, a much faster killing effect can be detected. Just six hours after the flies were exposed to the mixture of spintor 4 ml and combi-protec 1 l used as bait, almost 90% of the flies were killed off.

Treatments before rain!

In both bait and spray treatments, a reduced efficacy can be expected after rainfall. Rain amounts of 10-15 l/m ² are already sufficient for the spray surfaces. Wash off bait dripbs.

Contrary to the general recommendation, the treatments before rainfall (24-48 hours beforehand) are classified by us as very important and recommended!

The rainfall leads to ideal egg laying conditions and higher egg production in the cherry vinegar fly. Thus, the control measures take on an increased significance one to two days before precipitation events! Even small populations are able to cause damage under these conditions. If treated only after the rainfall, the maggots develop further as no curatively effective remedy is available and the infestation rocks up. As a result, the distances between treatments only need to be reduced in the case of very strong access.
